Russell County's all-fiber-optic broadband network, Point Broadband, was deployed in 2004 and currently provides affordable digital phone services and advanced broadband with speeds of up to 1 Gbps to institutions and businesses. Robust and expanding, the network is capable of delivering tier-4 performance to data centers. Phone and broadband redundancy are also available through Verizon and Shentel.

Russell County's transportation system provides access to major thoroughfares, local and regional airports, and rail lines.

Several four-lane highways provide navigation in the county, with U.S. Routes 19 and 58 connecting to Interstate 81 in Abingdon (20 minutes away) and Interstate 77 in Princeton, West Virginia (70 minutes away). Interstate 26 can be accessed (60 minutes away) in Tennessee (between Johnson City and Kingsport) and Interstates 40 and 75 (two hours away) can be accessed in Knoxville - all by taking U.S. Route 19 in Russell County to Interstate 81.

Commercial air travel - Delta, American Airlines, and Allegiant - are available at Tri-Cities Regional Airport in Blountville, Tennessee, just an hour drive away. In addition, three smaller airports for general aviation purposes are located 20 to 30 minutes away: Lonesome Pine Airport in Wise; Virginia Highlands Airport in Abingdon; and Tazewell County Airport in Claypool Hill.

We're also served by two of the largest railroads in the nation: CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Transportation. In addition, more than 30 motor freight companies provide service in Russell County, including UPS Freight Transportation and Estes Express.

Water services are provided in Russell County through two public service authorities - Russell County Public Service Authority and Russell County Water and Sewage Authority - and the towns of Honaker, Cleveland, St. Paul and Lebanon.

Electric power services are provided by Appalachian Power, which is part of American Electric Power, one of the largest electric utilities in the nation. Electric service redundancy is also available through Old Dominion Electric Cooperative (ODEC), which also serves counties in Maryland and Delaware.

Natural gas is available through Appalachian Natural Gas Distribution Company, a business in nearby Abingdon, Virginia, that serves four counties in Southwest Virginia, including Russell.
